Ivan at Bluesfest
Ivan Molloy was born in Sandringham, Victoria, Australia.   He was the youngest of four children to parents Mat and Beryl.   Mat was a champion boxer, a digger and very dedicated unionist.   Beryl was a mum and political intellectual being very active in left wing politics during the forties, fifties and sixties. All the Molloys were passionate opponents of the Vietnam War.
Ivan went to school at Sandringham Technical College, later studied Civil Engineering at Caulfield Institute of Technology, then Geology at Royal Melbourne Institute of  Technology and then 'hit the road' and travelled extensively nationally and internationally for the next five years.    After travelling throughout the world by all forms of transport, he returned to study Politics and History.   He achieved a BA-Hons in Politics, followed by a Master of Arts (MA) and then a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Political Science specializing in Third World Politics, Revolution and US Foreign Policy.   He then went on to work as an academic and writer of Political Science, spending much time undertaking field research in many revolutionary 'hot spots' throughout the world. His main areas of expertise became Terrorism, Pacific Politics, International Relations and US Foreign Policy, and then finally the Politics of Western Popular Music.

Ivan worked at many universities around Australia and overseas, and most particularly in multi-media education involving CD Roms, video and documentary.   For many years he conducted research in revolutionary environments and war zones in numerous parts of the world including Nicaragua, El Salvador, Cuba, China, Vietnam, the Philippines and elsewhere developing significant expertise in guerrilla and terrorist strategies.    In 2002, his widely acclaimed book - 'Rolling Back Revolution'  was published internationally, based on his many years of academic field research.   In 1996, he moved from the University of Sydney, where he was Program Director of the Master of International Studies, to the Sunshine Coast in Queensland and taught at the newly built University of the Sunshine Coast.   During that time he was very active in local, national and international politics.

In 2004, Ivan achieved a great deal of notoriety nationally and internationally when he ran as a Labor candidate in the federal election.   A photo from his earlier research days into Muslim separatism in the Southern Philippines was falsely used by his political opponents to label him a terrorist sympathizer and he was unjustly victimized and criticized by both his opponents and even those in his own party.   While still politically active, Ivan now considers himself politically 'independent' and is widely critical of all major Australian political parties.   Nowadays, he regards them all as having lost their way and mainly serving individual self interest first, rather than the public good and Australia's true national interests.

Ivan now operates freelance as a writer and is currently involved in 'The Rock Mountain Music Experience' project (www.rock-mountain.org).
